Frequently asked questions

What's free, and what does Pro add?

Every feature is free for up to 2 scripts (drafts of a script count once, and Recently Deleted doesn't count). Cut to Fade Pro is a single one-time purchase, not a subscription, that unlocks unlimited scripts. Nothing already in your library is ever locked.

Does one purchase cover iPhone, iPad and Mac?

Yes. Buy Pro once and it unlocks on every iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in to the same Apple Account.

How do I restore Pro?

Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases, signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought it with.

My scripts aren't showing up on another device.

Check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud on, that you have free iCloud storage, and that both are online. Settings shows whether sync is on. A new device can take a minute to download your library the first time. The library says it's checking iCloud while that happens.

What happens if I edit the same script on two devices?

Each script syncs as a whole, so versions never get mixed together. If a change arrives from another device while you're typing, the app asks you to choose: Load latest or Keep mine.

How do I format lines quickly?

Use the six buttons above the keyboard: Scene, Action, Character, Parenthetical, Dialogue, Transition. Pressing Return moves on automatically (Character → Dialogue → Action). With a hardware keyboard, Tab cycles the line type and ⌘1–⌘6 pick one directly.

Can I bring in a script from another app?

Yes. Import a .fountain or plain-text file, or use “Open in Cut to Fade” from Files, Mail or AirDrop. Pasting several lines also formats them automatically, and anything it misreads takes one tap to fix. Export to Fountain to take your script anywhere else.

Is the PDF industry standard?

Yes. It uses 12pt Courier with standard margins (1.5" left, 1" elsewhere), page numbers and correct page breaks with (MORE) and (CONT'D). For shooting scripts, you can turn on scene numbers and scene continueds in the export menu, and lock the script to keep its numbers (12A, OMITTED and so on).

I deleted a script by mistake.

Open Recently Deleted in the library. Scripts stay there for 30 days and can be restored on any of your devices.
