This policy covers Cut to Fade for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Android phones and tablets (“the app”), published by Tachena under the name Chie (“we”, “us”). Features and system services vary by platform.
Information the app handles
The app stores the writing and project information you create or import, including scripts, titles, author details, drafts, notes, comments, collections, story boards, selected reference images, shot lists and production information. It also stores preferences and information needed to remember your Pro access. These are used to provide the features you choose.
We do not operate a server that receives your script library, and we do not sell your personal information or use your writing for advertising. Information can leave your device through optional system services, purchases, backups or sharing as explained below. If you contact us, we receive the message, your email address and any attachments you choose to send.
Storage and sync on Apple devices
Scripts and project data are saved on your device so you can write offline. On iPhone, iPad and Mac, supported library data also syncs through your private iCloud database using Apple CloudKit when iCloud is available. It is associated with your Apple Account and uses your iCloud storage. We do not have access to that private database. Apple processes this service under the Apple Privacy Policy.
Without iCloud, the library remains local, although device backups may still apply according to your settings. Some appearance and writing preferences are stored per device. Apple's TipKit may also record locally whether an in-app tip has been shown.
Storage and backups on Android
The Android version stores your library and settings in the app's private storage on your device. It does not use Apple iCloud or provide automatic library sync between Android and Apple devices.
Android system backup and device-to-device transfer may copy app data, including scripts, images and preferences, depending on your device, backup provider and settings. These services are controlled by Android, Google or your device manufacturer; they are separate from a Chie-operated service. Locally cached Google Play purchase receipts are excluded from the app's configured backup and transfer rules. Restore Pro through Google Play on a new installation. Google's services are covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
You can also create a library backup yourself and choose where to save it. A backup or exported file may contain your full writing and project information, so choose its destination carefully.
Importing, images, exporting and collaboration
The app accesses files and images you select through system pickers or open/share actions. Selected reference images and imported content are copied into your project as needed. Exports, including PDFs, screenplay files, backups and co-writer or crew packages, are prepared on your device.
When you share or save a file, the app sends it to the destination you choose, such as another app, email recipient or cloud-storage provider. Those recipients and providers handle the shared copy under their own policies. Co-writer and crew features exchange files; they do not upload your library to a Chie collaboration server.
Dictation and table read
Dictation is optional. On Apple devices, the app uses Apple's speech-recognition service and requests microphone and speech-recognition access. It uses on-device recognition when supported; otherwise speech may be processed by Apple.
On Android, dictation opens the speech-recognition service available on your device. The app requests offline recognition, but the selected service may use online processing depending on its capabilities, language and settings. Audio and related recognition data may therefore be handled by Google or another speech-service provider. Review that provider's settings and privacy policy before dictating sensitive material.
Table read passes screenplay text to the device's speech-synthesis service. Apple versions use Apple's speech voices. Android uses your installed text-to-speech engine; some engines or voices may process text online. We do not receive your recordings, dictated text or table-read text through a Chie speech server. Transcripts you insert become part of your saved script.
Purchases and restoring Pro
On Apple devices, purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. On Android, Pro is a one-time, non-consumable purchase processed by Google Play. The app uses purchase status and transaction information supplied by the relevant store to unlock and restore features. Android stores a signed purchase receipt and signature locally to verify Pro access, including offline access after a verified purchase.
We do not receive your payment-card details or store password. Apple and Google process payments and maintain transaction records under their own policies. Their developer tools may provide sales, transaction, refund and diagnostic information so we can manage the app and purchases. Store records are separate from your script library. Apple purchases do not automatically transfer to Google Play, or vice versa.
Analytics, advertising and diagnostics
The app contains no advertising or third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Apple, Google and your device's system services may collect operational or diagnostic information under their own policies and your settings. Developer consoles may make crash reports, performance information and aggregate usage or sales reports available to us. We use available diagnostics to maintain the app and fix problems.
Retention, deletion and your choices
Your library remains on your device and, where applicable, in iCloud or backups until you delete it. Use the app's deletion and Recently Deleted controls to remove writing; moving a script to Recently Deleted is not immediate permanent deletion. On Apple versions, Recently Deleted scripts are retained for up to 30 days before the app purges them, and deletion is synchronized when iCloud is available.
Removing local app data or uninstalling the Android app removes its local library, but may not remove existing system backups, exported files or copies shared with other people. Manage those separately through the relevant provider or recipient. Apple iCloud copies also need to be managed separately from simply removing an app. Store transaction records are retained by Apple or Google under their policies.
You can avoid optional dictation, choose an offline speech engine or voice where available, control device backup and iCloud settings, and decide which files to import or share. We cannot retrieve or delete a private library we do not hold. For information you have sent us directly, such as a support email, contact us to request access or deletion. We retain support correspondence as needed to handle the request and meet applicable obligations.
Children
Cut to Fade is a general-purpose writing tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect children's personal information through a Chie account or app server. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us directly, please contact us so we can address it.
